Kerens, WV. 8/8/2008. Tim Senic passed leader Bob Gordon going down the back straight on lap 25 to win his 2nd in a row and 3rd Budweiser LM feature of 2008 at the Elkins Speedway.
Two of Elkins all time favorites Chuck Harper and Denny Chamberlain led the 15 car field to the green. On the first attempt at a start 8th starting Steve Booth looped his car coming off turn 2 on the back straight and brought out caution # 1. During this yellow 5th starting Shawn Poling retired to the pits.
On the 2nd start Harper got the jump on Chamberlain going into turn 1 and jumped to the high side with Chamberlain then diving under Harper. When he did this 3rd starting Bob Gordon slipped between both of them and assumed the lead going down the back straight with Chamberlain 2nd, Charlie George 3rd, Harper 4th, Billy Holbert 5th, Senic 6th, Butch McGill 7th, Steve Wilmoth 8th, Skip Hare 9th and Josh Coffman 10th.
On lap 2 George got by Chamberlain for 2nd and began chasing Gordon for the lead. All the rest of the top 10 remain the same through lap 9 when Senic got by Holbert for 5th. Then on lap 11 Senic passed Harper and began closing in on Chamberlain. On lap 12 in traffic George worked under Gordon and assumed the lead.
On lap 13 the 2nd and final caution of the night flew when Coffman spun in turn 4. On the restart Gordon, whose tires had cooled back down, got back by George and reassumed the lead. Senic also got by Chamberlain for 3rd. McGill got by Holbert on lap 12 and then on lap 13 moved to 5th when he, Holbert and Wilmoth got by Harper. With 10 laps to go the top five was Gordon, George, Senic, Chamberlain and McGill.
In the final 10 laps Senic worked by George on lap 17 and chased down Gordon whose tires were again going away. McGill passed Chamberlain on the lap 13 restart for 4th and Holbert worked by him on lap 20. On lap 21 Harper worked back by Wilmoth for 7th. Senic made his last lap pass with a kamikaze move coming off turn 2 going down the back straight. Senic and Gordon made some contact with Senic assuming the lead and taking the win over Gordon, George, McGill and Holbert. Heats to McGill and Chamberlain.
Notes: 15 cars started the feature with 12 running after 25 laps. Only 2 cautions tonight. Hard charger was Tim Senic who started 8th and won a gain of 7 spots.
Notes: Senic’s #S2 LM is a Rocket chassis powered by a Draime Racing engine and sponsored by Roy’s RV SuperCenter, Residential Creations, TRE, Hoosier and Roy’s Home Center.
Notes: Denny Chamberlain, Lost Creek, raced for the first time tonight since the final race of the 2006 season. Denny had open heart surgery in February 2007 and was just recently cleared by his doctors to get back into his race car. Denny looked like the Denny of old as in his first competition took his heat race and was competitive in the feature.
Kevin Keene, Belington, won his 2nd J&M Grafix SL feature in a row and 3rd of 2008 at the Elkins Speedway. Keene passed leader Brad Harris going into turn 1 on lap 6 and led the final 15 laps for the win.
John Tallman and Anthony Arbogast chased him the entire distance but never were close enough to challenge for the lead. Harris came back to finish 4th with Rick Sturm 5th.
Notes: Only 7 cars tonight with only 4 completing all 2 laps. Only 2 cautions.
Jim Bendishaw, Uniontown, Pa, in his 2nd visit of 2008 to the Elkins Speedway captured his first ever Sigler Fabrication Street Stock feature.
Bendishaw passed leader Dusty Swecker on lap 3 and led the final 13 laps for the win. Swecker chased Bendishaw the entire distance but never challenged for the lead as Bendishaw had the field covered. Ricky Vest ran 3rd the entire distance while Johnny Singleton also did the same in 4th. Teresa Vaughn started 5th, dropped back early and came on to finish 5th at the finish. Heats to Singleton and Swecker.
Notes: 18 cars started the feature with 15 running at the checkered. No cautions.
Terry Styer passed leader Tommy Simpson on lap 16 and led the final 5 laps to win the 4 Cyl Special and its $400 prize.
At the drop of the green Travis Mullenax took the lead with Tommy Simpson and Mark Digges on his tail. These 3 fought for the lead with both Simpson and Digges getting by Mullenax coming off turn 4 on lap 7.
Styer started last in the 14 car field and steadily worked his way to the front. By lap 10 he was in 4th and on Mullanex’s tail. On lap 14 he went by Mullenax and set sail for the leaders who were having quite a battle. On lap 16 with Simpson on the top, Digges in the middle and Styer on the bottom coming off turn 4, Styer took the lead and drove off. He increased his lead every lap and beat Digges by 6 or 8 car lengths with Simpson 3rd, Lynn Moore 4th and Dickie Tharp 5th. Heats to Tommy Simpson and Travis Mullenax.
Notes: 15 cars in the pits with 14 starting the feature. 11 running after 10 laps. One caution tonight. Hard charger was Terry Styer who started 14th and won, a gain of 13 spots.
Notes: One new car was the #B2 of Lynn Moore.
Walt Foster from the outside pole led all 10 laps for his first ever Hornet feature win at the Elkins Speedway. Jason Moore caught him in the final 2 laps but just couldn’t find a way around so he settled for 2nd with David Wamsley 3rd, Lawrence Wimer 4th and Donnie Wamsley 5th. Heats to John Sinnett and Moore.
Notes: Nine cars started the feature with 8 running at the checkered. Only 1 caution. Hard charger was David Wamsley who started 8th and finished 3rd, a gain of 5 spots.
Garrett Paugh won his 3rd Mini Wedge feature of 2008 at the Elkins Speedway. Zak Kimbrew was 2nd with Ryan Watson 3rd, James Nelson 4th and Megan Davis 5th. Heats to Zak Kimbrew and Paugh.
Notes: The feature was red flagged when Scott Perrine flipped his #24 end over end off turn 2 on lap 4 while running in the lead pack. Scott walked away and was unhurt while the car was picked up and put in a truck. The roll cage held up real well and didn’t look too badly damaged.
