Wisdom to Wealth- Thursday, April 1
John Halterman: Is it worth contributing to a 401k if you do not get matching funds? That’s a question I get all the time. What I tell people is this, the beauty of a 401k is it’s payroll deducted. So, if you don’t’ see it, you never miss it. Now, if you’re a disciplined person and you’re not getting a match, I gotta tell you, to me putting it in a 401k adds limitations on you. So, if I could, I would rather open an account where I have control of the funds. This way what’s going to happen is now I get to choose and self-direct what we can do versus just being limited to the options of the 401k. But again, the key is, do you have the discipline? You know, no doubt about it, if that’s not you and you don’t want to see it, then don’t, don’t get discouraged by no 401k. Because at least if you’re saving and you accumulate a lot of money, then you’re taking care of yourself. For more answers, call or visit our website today.
