Man pleads guilty to murder of WVU student, trial date set for co-defendant

MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) - One man plead guilty on Tuesday to first-degree murder for shooting and killing 21-year-old West Virginia University student Eric Smith, according to Administrative Assistant at Monongalia County Prosecutor’s Office Dianna Sanders.

Terrell Linear, 22, accepted a plea deal on Tuesday and plead guilty to first-degree murder. His sentencing date is scheduled for July 22. Co-defendant Shaundarius Reeder, 21, was offered the same plea deal as Lineal, but refused. His trial date is set for Tuesday. Both defendants are from Fairmont, WV.

Linear and Reeder are accused of shooting Smith at the College Park Apartments in Morgantown in February 2020. Prior to the shooting, the three men got into a fight in the parking lot, according to court documents.
