WVU’s Davis becomes SportsCenter’s favorite outfielder in 2021
Made Sportscenter’s top plays two times in May
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - WVU right fielder Austin Davis was not only the Mountaineers, but ESPN’s favorite right fielder in 2021.
The Orlando, Florida native made not one but two catches in right field at Mon County Ballpark that were the No. 2 play on SportsCenter that night. He also robbed a grand slam against Texas in the Big 12 tournament that was ranked No. 2 by the NCAA this week.
“Being a defender in the outfield you don’t get a lot of action all the time so when you do get those chances to make big time plays, you just have to live in the moment and let it happen,” Davis said.
Davis backed his stellar play on defense with a very productive season at the dish. He batted a team best .320 on the year, with 28 runs, 56 hits and 18 RBIs.
“For me to be able to do both of those things all year and just help my team get wins and beat Texas, it was just great,” he said.
The junior is slated to play in the MLB Draft League this summer as a member of the West Virginia Black Bears at Mon County Ballpark.
From there, he will evaluate his options of either to go professional or return to WVU where he is set to graduate next May.
