Tasty Tuesday: Holy Smokes BBQ
If it is Tuesday, it has to be Tasty Tuesday, and this week we are at Holy Smokes BBQ getting some really good BBQ for a really good cause.
Jodi Rose says, “We were just coming to West Virginia, we needed a change. And we got here and saw the dire, the need for hunger relief. We started a ministry, Pioneer Trails ministry. It was just a small ministry, so we, John and I, funded that ministry. And when the pandemic hit, it just exploded. A lot of places in the area couldn’t operate, pantries and churches, everting was ordered to close down. We were called in, to see what we can do, because nobody else can do this right now. We realized there was going to be an even greater need. So we purchased a food trailer, and everything that’s over and above what we need to make it operate, fights hunger. And we just wanted a way to give back because that’s what we do, that’s what our ministry is about. And the need has continued to grow.”
Since March 2020, they have put 68,000 pounds of food into the community and it’s growing, there is such a need. They bring meals to the elderly, and do hot meals once a month, but they’re doing it every Saturday during the pandemic.
“Everything is made Texas style, because I am from Texas ad have been in a lot of BBQ houses in Texas. Love it love it. We are going to try the brisket today, people love out brisket,” said Jodi. “The pulled pork, the home made mac and cheese, the baked beans full of the smoked pork meat which has been a really big hit. And we do a desert of the day because we don’t want to keep things the same all the time.”
Kevin was able to try the loaded nachos- Nachos, pulled pork right from the cooker, we have queso, jalapenos, more cheese and their signature BBQ sauce. Believe it or not, there is a pound of cheese on these nachos. Now for the main meal, a beef brisket sandwich with the BBQ sauce they make right here and the beans with the pulled pork homemade. Mmm very very good!
