Intense storms with the potential of flash flooding.
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Happy Thursday Everyone!! It is going to be a wet and stormy one out there today. Showers and thunderstorms have been moving into our area for most of the late morning and afternoon. Some of these showers are holding a lot of rain and because of that, the National Weather Service has Flash Flood Watches for Ritchie, Gilmer, Lewis, Upshur, Randolph, Webster and Braxton counties. These are currently in effect and are not expected to expire till Friday night. Rainfall totals associated with these showers are forecast to be between 1-2″ with some isolated areas receiving up to 4″. Please be careful of where your local areas easily flood and do not drive through areas where you don’t know how deep it is. Likely after 9 pm this evening, most of these showers and storms will likely dissipate, but then tomorrow expect to see more active, stormy weather from morning till early evening. As mentioned before, rain accumulations from these storms could be quite intense, and in a very short amount of time. Locations of where it will happen are hard to determine now, just based on the nature of springtime severe weather. Those storms could pop up anywhere within the risk area. The storms are also expected to move slowly, which means that the rain could be dropped in a smaller area for a longer period of time. As for the weekend, Saturday is looking like it will be a nice one. Maybe a passing shower in the morning, but the afternoon clouds will part, leaving us with plenty of sun and temperatures into the mid to high 80′s. Sunday morning will also be nice, but then expect to see showers and storms developing later in the day.
Tonight: Early showers, then mostly cloudy: Low: 66
Friday: Stormy and potential flooding in places: High 78
Saturday: Partly cloudy: High 86
Sunday: Scattered PM storms: High 81
