One dead after officer-involved shooting at Nutter Fort funeral home
NUTTER FORT, W.Va (WDTV) - One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting at a Nutter Fort funeral home Wednesday afternoon.
Law enforcement were at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home because they had a warrant for a man’s arrest, according to Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny.
The man was believed to be armed by officers, Sheriff Matheny said, but he could not confirm if a weapon was found.
Family members on the scene identified the man as Jason Owens, according to a 5 News reporter on the scene.
A funeral for Junior Arnie Owens happened shortly before the reported incident.
The U.S. Marshals of the Northern District of West Virginia has issued a statement regarding the officer-involved shooting incident in Nutter Fort:
At approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, members of the U.S. Marshals-led Mountain State Fugitive Task Force and other law enforcement agencies were involved in an officer-involved shooting during a fugitive investigation that resulted in a fatality in Nutter Fort, West Virginia. Preliminary information indicates that during the arrest attempt, the subject produced a firearm. As a result, law enforcement officers discharged their firearms striking the individual. Officers immediately rendered first aid until emergency medical services arrived; however, the man succumbed to his injuries. No law enforcement officers or other persons were injured during the incident. The lead investigating agency for this incident is the West Virginia State Police.
Multiple agencies responded to the shooting, including Bridgeport, Clarksburg, Nutter Fort and Stonewood Police Departments, Harrison County EMS and Sheriff’s Office, Nutter Fort Fire Department, and West Virginia State Police.
State Police and the HCSO are investigating the incident.
