Austin serves as WDTV's evening co-anchor, alongside Cynthia Hill, for First at 5, 5 News at 5:30, and 5 News at 6.
In addition to evening anchoring duties, Austin also regularly contributes as a reporter.
He joined the 5 News team in October 2015 as the Marion, Taylor, and Barbour County Reporter. He shifted his beat to Monongalia and Preston County in April 2017.
Throughout his career with WDTV, Austin has covered issues throughout our community such as the 2018 teachers strike as well as road conditions and the opioid epidemic. He also helped contribute to coverage of the flooding issues throughout the area in 2017.
A graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism, Austin was involved in radio on campus and in the Syracuse community. He had the opportunity to intern for NBC during the 2014 Olympics in Sochi and spent a summer as the play-by-play voice of the Wareham Gatemen in the Cape Cod Baseball League and the Mat-Su Miners of the Alaska Baseball League. Prior to joining WDTV, Austin was the voice of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
Outside of work, you'll most likely see Austin with a cup of coffee in his hand, spending time outside with family and friends, or at Fenway Park watching the Red Sox. Oh yeah, he's also a diehard Red Sox fan.
Feel free to reach out to Austin via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have a story idea, or if you just want to say hello.
