WESTON, W.Va. (WDTV) -- $500,000 in federal grant money will go to broadband expansion in Lewis County.
Governor Jim Justice presented the funds to Lewis County Commissioners Thursday. Officials say the money will be used to improve high-speed internet to almost 500 people and 7 businesses.
“Today we’re doing good stuff, we’ll be able to help a bunch of people here,” Justice said. “We going to be able to connect so many people like they’ve never been connected before.”
The Lewis County Economic Development Authority will also use the funds to provide digital enhancements to education, health care, public safety and more.
The funds to Lewis County are part of a $13.1 million federal Community Development Block Grant given to West Virginia for broadband and infrastructure projects.
