Application window announced for emergency low income assistance program

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ/WDTV) - The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced the application window for the Emergency Low Income Assistance Program (LIEAP) on Monday.

The federally funded program will accept applications starting on Monday, March 25th, 2019 and end on Friday, March 29th, 2019 or until the funds have been exhausted. This initiative assists eligible state residents who have a termination notice on their home heating bills.

When applying for the assistance, residents must either provide a shutdown notice of their gas or electricity or show that their primary heat source has low fuel at the time of application.

Eligibility for funding is based on income, household size and whether or not the household is responsible for paying its home heating bill. The household income must be at, or below, 150 percent of the federal poverty guideline for the household size. You can view the maximum allowable gross income per person below.

To apply, residents must go to their local DHHR office for an in-person interview with a worker.
