PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) Local authorities are looking for escaped inmate Lester Emery Johnson, 39, after he allegedly cut off his GPS tracking bracelet and escaped Wednesday in Parkersburg.
According to the West Virginia Division of Corrections, the Parkersburg Correctional Center received an alert at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday that Johnson had cut his GPS tracking bracelet at the Corner Cafe in Parkersburg.
Officers arrived on-scene and found the cut GPS bracelet in a trash can in the restaurant's bathroom, with Johnson gone from the restaurant.
WVDOC officials say Johnson was serving a 5 to 10-year sentence at the Parkersburg Correctional Center on a charge of Forging or Uttering Other Writing, and was on a work-release program where he worked at the Corner Cafe.
Johnson is described as a white male, 6'4" tall, weighing 177 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
