Beach defends senate seat, defeats Oliverio in 13th district race

MARION COUNTY, W. Va. (WDTV) - it was a race for name recognition in the state's 13th Senate district.

Incumbent challenger Bob Beach will serve another term in Charleston He defeated Republican challenger Mike Oliverio, the man he replaced for his seat when he took office in 2010.

Oliverio was a former four-term senator, who left his seat to run for Congress. He a Democrat when he served in office but changed his party in October.

Beach defeated Oliverio 52.1 to 47.9 percent (about 1,500 votes).

"It's pretty exciting," Beach said. "It's been a different race. We've had to adapt. The outcome was based on the fact that we had a lot of volunteers. I can't thank those folks enough."
