BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. (WDTV) -- The Bridgeport Police Department is warning residents of a new phone scam.

Bridgeport Police Chief John P. Walker told 5 News that people have been getting phone calls from a person claiming to be with Publishers Clearing House telling them they won money.

The scammer then will ask you for personal information as well as asking for the victim to send them checks or cash to various addresses in order to claim the prize.

Bridgeport Police are reminding residents to never give out personal information.

If you get one of these calls or if you have any questions, you're asked to call your local police agency and report it.
