BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. (WDTV) - After a very cold past couple of days, a brief warm-up is in the forecast for this afternoon. You will still have to push through the cold temperatures that we woke up to this morning, but we will rapidly warm into the 50's for daytime highs today! Gusty winds will also be a part of your Wednesday afternoon with gusts of up to 30 mph expected.
As high pressure slowly slides eastward of our region, southwesterly flow will take over and all of the warmth from our friends to the south will be pulled into our region. Temperatures by the end of lunch hour already closing in on the mid 40's and by 3 PM we will soar into the lower 50's across many locations! While this warm-up is being welcomed with open arms but is also unfortunately short lived. We are currently on the heels of our next cold front which will sweep the region on Thursday evening.
Rain showers likely to start ahead of our next cold front as temperatures will still be warm enough to support rain, but that will not be the case for the entire evening. After the cold front marches across the Mountain State, temperatures will begin to crash down into the teens for overnight lows. Rain will likely change over to freezing rain and eventually snow Thursday night into Friday morning. While accumulations are expected to be minor at this time, the timing of the event will likely impact your Friday morning commute.
