LEWIS COUNTY, W. Va. (WDTV) - Camp Catch Your Breath (CCYB) is a week-long program held at West Virginia University's Jackson Mill where campers ages eight to thirteen participate in your usual summer camp activities like arts and crafts, games, and swimming.
While the goal is to create a normal summer camp experience, campers also attend education sessions during the day where they learn how to best handle their asthma.
"Our goal this week is to teach them about asthma, teach them about asthma management skills, so that they can have as normal life as possible and know how to combat the disease they deal with," camp director Sonny Hoskinson said.
The camp gives parents of asthmatic children a chance to give their kids a fun summer camp experience without any worry.
"We have a very experienced, trained medical staff here address any issues and to help alleviate those parent's fears," activities director Clifton Jackson said.
This is the camp's 28th year running.
Camp Catch Your Breath is sponsored and funded by United Hospital Center.
