HARRISON COUNTY, W. Va. The Clarksburg Police Department swore-in a new probationary patrolman on Wednesday morning at the Clarksburg City Council Building.
The ceremony for Patrolman Preston Lewis took place in the Council Chambers, where he was sworn-in by Clarksburg City Clerk, Annette Wright with the ceremony being led by Clarksburg Police Chief Robbie Hilliard.
Next, Lewis will be heading to the State Police Academy, where he will complete a fourteen week training program, plus, three more months of field training before being assigned his first shift to begin his patrol duties.
Patrolman Lewis says he looks forward to getting started, and helping to build trust between police and community members, "police are very untrusted, at least they are viewed as untrusted, so I think trying to form that bond is going to be pretty challenging, but we can get it done."
The City of Clarksburg is hoping to have a total of five new recruits enrolled in the academy in July of 2019.
