CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WDTV) -- A fire that broke out at an abandoned house behind Kroger in Clarksburg Sunday was deemed suspicious after an initial investigation, fire officials said.

The Clarksburg Fire Department responded to calls of a fire at the abandoned home on Summit Court around 5:50 p.m.

Firefighters said they believed the blaze broke out on the second floor. They told 5 News they saw graffiti on the first floor and found other signs throughout the home that people were staying there, though the utilities have been shut off to the property.

The house on Summit Court is an uphill dead-end road off Locust Avenue, which overlooks the West Pike Street Kroger.

The Clarksburg Fire Department is handling the investigation. Harrison County EMS was also at the scene. Nobody was hurt.
