Congressman McKinley discusses topics with local law enforcement

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WDTV)-- Congressman David McKinley visited Morgantown, Monday, to meet with local law enforcement to discuss several concerning topics.

5 News wasn't able to go into the meeting, but it did include several of the police chiefs in Monongalia County.

The follow-up meeting was to discuss criminal justice reform and the opioid crisis.

Congressman McKinley said he's looking for solutions to help reduce the overdose death rate that continues to rise in the state.

He says this Roundtable is an opportunity for him to hear from people who work in the field every day. This way he can get a better understanding of what needs to be done.

"Let's hear it from people who deal with this problem on a day-to-day basis. Not have a bunch of lawyers in Washington tell us what we need to do. Let's hear it from people who have to deal with it on the street. They gave us some good ides we'll be able to take back and work with it," said McKinley.

Congressman McKinley said today's meeting was a success and he looks forward to taking law enforcement's ideas back to Washington.
