David McKinley wins re-election in District One congressional race

MONONGALIA COUNTY, W. Va. (WDTV) - Congressman David Mckinley came out on top in the race for Congressional District One.

The congressman took time to thank his opponent Kendra Fershee and his supporters.

The congressman also said now that he's headed back to Washington for his 5th term he plans on delivering on his campaign promises.

"I'm gonna make sure that what we're going to do in Washington is what we said we were gonna do," McKinley said "and those are primarily keeping the economy going strong, dealing with healthcare to make sure it's affordable and accessible to more people than we have right now, and also to put behind us this cancer of opioids that's still sweeping the county,"

The congressman also thanked his opponent Kendra Fershee for running a race without negative rhetoric or hateful attacks that he says he's seen in other races across the country.

Congressman McKinley won with 64.6% of the vote over Fershee's 35.4%.
