FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WDTV) - Independence Day celebrations were happening all over our area on Tuesday.

This included Fairmont. People lined the streets near Palatine Park as the city held its First Responder's Parade.

All afternoon Palatine Park had been buzzing with music and people outside enjoying the weather.

We were able to catch up with a local veteran who was at the park. We asked him what does it mean to him to celebrate the 4th? He told us it's all about our freedom.

"Freedom of speech, freedom to go where we want, freedom to buy what we want, and the main thing, freedom to go to a any church of our choice," said Columbus Carpenter, a Veteran.
