Former deputy charged after road rage video granted jury trial, civil suit filed

MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. (WDTV) -- A former Harrison County Sheriff's Deputy charged after a road rage incident caught on camera has been granted a jury trial.

63-year-old William Sothen along with his lawyer, Zach Dyer, appeared in court Thursday to make the request.

The road rage incident between Sothen and a woman (who was identified as Amber Generally happened in August on Van Voorhis Road in Morgantown, and rapidly spread on social media.Sothen is charged with battery.

The trial has been scheduled for March 19.

A civil suit was also filed by against Sothen by Generally on Tuesday for damages for medical and related expenses, impairment, pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss ability to enjoy life, annoyance and inconvenience, and scarring and disfigurement.
