In NYT interview, Trump criticizes Manchin

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) -- In a New York Times interview from Mar-a-Lago, President Trump did not hold back criticism of West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin. The president said Manchin is a "nice guy" but that he "doesn't do."

In the interview with NYT reporter Michael S. Schmidt, Trump said in part..."We started taxes. And we don’t hear from the Democrats..."

Regarding Manchin, the president stated "...he talks. But he doesn’t do anything. He doesn’t do. “Hey, let’s get together, let’s do bipartisan.” I say, “Good, let’s go.” Then you don’t hear from him again."

"I like Joe," Trump continued. "You know, it’s like he’s the great centrist. But he’s really not a centrist. And I think the people of West Virginia will see that. He not a centrist. … I’m the one that saved coal. I’m the one that created jobs. You know West Virginia is doing fantastically now."

Senator Manchin's office has yet to comment on the interview, but has told media outlets that the senator had several meetings about the tax bill, including with President Trump.

In the interview with Schmidt, the president also discussed the Russia investigation, the Alabama Senate race, taxes, and other topics. You can read released excerpts of the interview from the New York Times at the Related Link.
