Kate's Corner: Volcano eggs

By  |

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. (WDTV) - In this Kate's Corner, we are taking dyeing eggs to the next level. It may be a bit messy so I suggest we play it safe and head outside.

Here's what you'll need:
-Hard boiled eggs
-Baking soda
- A few cups
-Paint brushes
-Either left over egg dye or food coloring

First step is to make our special paste. Add about one or two teaspoons of baking soda to one teaspoon and water and food coloring. Paint this paste onto your egg. The thicker the better.

Now time for the eruption. In a cup, have some vinegar. When you're ready, drop your eggs in and watch it erupt. You can do more than one egg in the vinegar at a time for a bigger eruption.

What happening here is our favorite chemical reaction. The baking soda and vinegar create a chemical reaction that creates carbon dioxide and that is what all the bubbles were.

This is a great experiment to dye your eggs, learn about primary colors, and chemistry.
