Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell on securing health care benefits for coal miners
Congress reached the agreement Sunday night as lawmakers made the deal to fund the government. Included in the spending bill: U.S. government and coal companies will be required to pay out healthcare to retired coal miners. Over 22,000 miners and their families faced losing their benefits on April 30th as many coal companies are faced with bankruptcies. We sat down with Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who played a major role in getting this bill to the finish line.
“I wanted to make sure that they were not collateral damage. From the President’s war on coal and we now secured their healthcare in perpetuity," McConnnell (R-KY) said.
Senator McConnell said the vote on the spending bill will be later this week
