Local firefighter receives Educator of the Year award at State Public Safety Expo

MORGANTOWN, W. Va (WDTV) -- A Morgantown firefighter was chosen as the West Virginia Fire & Line Safety Educator of the Year.

Firefighter First Class Andrew Dotson was presented the award May 9 at the West Virginia Public Safety Expo in Charleston. The award was given to him by State Fire Marshal Ken Tyree.

Dotson has worked for the Morgantown Fire Department for 13 years. He was appointed in 2012 to oversee the department's fire prevention efforts. According to a release from the city of Morgantown, Dotson has provided training to over 12,000 people every year through community outreach programs.

According to the release, Dotson has also established a cooperative program with several county volunteer fire departments to place fire prevention training in local school systems.
