Firefighters from West Virginia and Ohio are trying to control the flames at a warehouse on Parkersburg’s south side.
According to Wood County 911 officials, the fire started around 1 a.m. Saturday at the Ames Plant in the 3800 block of Camden Avenue. The facility is a warehouse which was being used as a storage facility for a number of plastics and other articles. The building where the fire started was in flames and the fire quickly spread to other buildings in the complex.
WTAP-TV reports several witnesses heard explosions just before the fire began.
Officials believe it will take a long time to bring the fire under control. It was still raging nine hours later on Saturday morning.
There are no reports of injuries so far. Residents who live near the area are urged to stay inside, especially those with respiratory issues.
