Man accused of leading police chase for second time in almost three years

FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV) - A man has been charged after allegedly leading police on a chase for the second time in almost three years.

According to Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Riffle, deputies tried to pull over a vehicle that Ryan Helfin was driving on Route 19 south in Marion Country. Riffle says Heflin was speeding.

Deputies followed Heflin into Harrison County and when they ran the license plate on the car, it came back as a stolen vehicle.

Police followed Heflin into Shinnston, and he later lost control of the vehicle into a mud pit on Route 20 in Lumberport. Riffle says Heflin fled on foot, but was later taken into custody.

Heflin is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing.

According to a criminal complaint, the victim of the stolen vehicle began receiving threats from Heflin.
