Man charged after leading pursuit through Preston County housing development

PRESTON COUNTY, W.Va. (WDTV) -- A Terra Alta man has been charged after leading a pursuit through a housing development.

According to the criminal complaint, officers noticed Justin Travis get into and drive a car from the Kingwood Walmart in February. The officers knew from a previous incident that Travis was driving with an invalid driver's license and tried to pull him over near West Point.

Officials say that once the cruiser lights were on, Travis sped into the housing development. The officer followed Travis to a dead end, when Travis drove in between two homes, almost crashing into a parked car. The car then went over a wooded hillside before crashing.

According to officials, Travis fled on foot after the pursuit. K9s tracked Travis to Route 7, where they were halted due to traffic conditions. The car was searched and officers found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Travis was eventually captured and is currently charged with delivery of a controlled substance.
