UPDATE: Man sentenced to up to 300 years in prison for 24 sex crimes

A man from Fairmont has been sentenced to 120-300 years in prison for two dozen counts of sexual abuse.

According to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, James Hess was sentenced on 12 counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and 12 counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian, or person in a position of trust.

Officials say Hess committed the crimes against an 8-year-old girl, with whom he tried to touch inappropriately. Law enforcement says he also tried to get the victim to touch him inappropriately.

A man in Marion County has been convicted of 24 sex crimes involving a young girl.

Prosecutors say that James Hess, 72, was convicted by a jury Friday on 12 counts of 1st-degree sexual abuse and 12 counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or custodian.

Officials say the victim was 8 at the time of the crimes.

Hess' sentencing has been set for a later date.
