CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) -- A Kentucky woman appeared in circuit court Monday to answer to her murder charge after her newborn baby was found dead inside a garbage bag in December.
Amber Bowling, 21, of Manchester, is accused of killing her newborn shortly after giving birth to the boy. Kentucky State Police says Bowling threw the garbage bag she put the child in over a banister. A neighbor found the garbage bag two days after Bowling gave birth.
An autopsy revealed the newborn suffered cranial bleeding and fractured ribs.
The court appointed Bowling a public defender who entered a not guilty plea on her behalf during the arraignment.
Bowling's uncle was in the courtroom for the arraignment, and he told WKYT the entire family is shocked over the case, and Bowling's actions were out of character.
Bowling's next court appearance is Mar. 4 for a pre-trial hearing.
