Mountaineers for Progress make plans for 2019

MONONGALIA COUNTY (W. Va.) - During their first meeting of the new year the group discussed goals for the coming year along with identifying issues they want to focus on.

"This time of year we're really focusing on what's happening with our state's legislature,"Bobbie Godbey, the Director of Communications for Mountaineers for Progress said "We spent a lot of time discussing different bills that were coming through, different initiatives that our membership is really passionate about, sot ht we can find the right way to engage," .

As part of that engagement, the group is planning on organizing a candidate forum to help better inform voters ahead of the April city council election.

A representative from the West Virginia chapter of ACLU also spoke at the meeting about issues they want to focus on in the coming year and also announced that they will be holding a rally this Saturday at WVU.

The rally is in response to an incident involving a Harrison County transgender student who was allegedly harassed by a faculty member in a school restroom last month.

Next week, on Monday January 14th, the group plans on holding a rally outside of Senator Capito's office, asking her to take action regarding the government shutdown and it's impact on West Virginians.

The group have two monthly meetings which are open to the public.
