New app shows WV taxpayers how their tax money was spent

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WDTV) - A new tool will allow West Virginians to learn how the state is spending tax dollars.

The new online tool is being launched by State Auditor John McCuskey and can be found at The tool gives taxpayers an idea of how their money was spent last year, with more accurate results available to those who filed a 2018 tax return.

"For the first time in West Virginia's history, taxpayers can receive an itemized summary that illustrates how their state income taxes contributed to programs within the state government," McCuskey said. "Our office is committed to making state government transparent and accountable, and this is another way for our citizens to be engaged and informed regarding how the various government entities spend their hard-earned tax dollars."
