OLPH celebrates church dedication ceremony

STONEWOOD, W. Va. (WDTV) -- After nearly a year of renovations, parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Stonewood are back inside their church. On Friday night, they hosted a special guest, Bishop Michael Bransfield.

The Bishop was presiding over the blessing of Our Lady's worship space. The parish has been around for 90 years, the church itself is 50 years old and not much has been done in those years. During the renovations, there were many additions and the bishop was blessing those. That includes one of a kind artwork designed by a company out of Braddock, Pennsylvania.

"We hadn't had anything done in the church for over 50 years, since we actually put the cornerstone in. So what this does, it brings us up to more current. We're hoping it brings younger parishioners, couples with families to our church, and to see how beautiful our worship space is," said Joseph Mazzei, Pastoral Council President.

The mass and blessing was a kickoff to a weekend celebration of thanksgiving. A reception followed Friday evening's blessing.

A Fairmont State University Baroque Concert will be held in the church Saturday and a Thanksgiving pot luck will be held Sunday following the 10 a.m. mass.
