UPDATE: Details released on robbery, assault connected to Clarksburg shooting

More information has been released about a robbery connected to the shooting of a man in Clarksburg.

According to the criminal complaint, Malik Edler allegedly used a gun to rob a victim who had come to buy marijuana from him. The victim told police that Edler put a gun to his head and demanded that he give him money. Once the victim complied, he was ordered to leave.

Officials say another victim was told about the robbery and went to ask Edler about the money. The second victim was let in before Edler allegedly grabbed her by the clothes, shoved her against the wall, and struck her with the gun, causing her to need staples. She was taken to United Hospital Center for treatment.

Officials say Edler later admitted to the incident.

The robbery and assault occurred the same day that Rex Allen Bailey was shot and killed. Officials say Edler's charges of malicious assault, 1st-degree robbery, and possession of a firearm are connected to the shooting. However, an investigation is still underway.

The victim in a Clarksburg shooting has been identified as 20-year-old Rex Allen Bailey of Stonewood.

Bailey was shot and killed at around 1:48 a.m. Wednesday on Broaddus Avenue.

Multiple suspects were taken into custody at the time of the shooting. 19-year-old Malik Edler has been charged with malicious assault, 1st-degree robbery, and possession of a firearm in connection to the shooting.

Officials have not said whether it's believed that Edler was the one who fired at Bailey. The investigation is ongoing and it is not clear if charges will be pressed against others at this time.

Police on the scene confirmed the shooting victim was a male from the Stonewood area. No name has been released at this time.

Neighbors in the area say they are stunned something like this happened on their road, but say they aren't going to live in fear.

"I'm not going to be afraid of anything," said neighbor Greg Cochran. "I'm armed but I'm not going to go out and be a vigilante. I take care of my own and they take care of theirs. That's basically how it is here."


One person is dead after a shooting in Harrison County and multiple people have been detained for questioning.

According to 911 dispatch, it happened around 1:48 a.m. on Broaddus Avenue in Clarksburg.

Multiple crews were called to the scene.

Clarksburg police is investigating.
