The Philippi Police Department's K9 Troll officially hung up his leash Friday.

The City of Philippi celebrated Troll's retirement at City Hall, according to the city's Facebook page.

Troll was with the department for over 3 years, the post says. He had to retire due to health issues.

"Officer Troll has been a true asset in the Philippi Police Department," the city wrote. "Congratulations Troll and we hope you enjoy your retirement here in Philippi."

Troll's work at the department has lead to hundred of arrests, led police to major drug dealers, and is credited in helping almost completely eliminating major drug dealing in the downtown area.

Pat Jones and staff at Delta Cooling made a generous donation towards a new K9 for the department.
