Police: Man who allegedly stole truck jumps into Elk Creek during arrest

HARRISON COUNTY, W.Va. (WDTV) -- A Clarksburg man has been charged after police say he jumped into Elk Creek in an attempted to avoid his arrest.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded Tuesday after a truck was reported stolen from McDowell Street. Later, a suspicious person was reported at the end of E.B. Saunders Way, and officers found the stolen truck that they say looked like it was stuck.

Police say 22-year-old Daniel Brown was with the truck and told officers he had borrowed it earlier in the day from a friend. Officials say when police tried to take Brown into custody, he ran before jumping into Elk Creek. An officer followed Brown to the middle of the creek, where water was described as "mid-chest deep," and arrested him.

Brown is charged with grand larceny.
