Hurricane season 2018 is officially upon us and the first named storm of the year has already come and gone,

If you live in an area where storms can strike, it's time to make sure your hurricane kit is stocked up

Make sure you have enough non-perishable food and water for three days for each person and pet, along with a week's supply of medicines. Since loss of power is likely during a large storm, having multiple flashlights, and a battery-powered radio, along with extra batteries are a must!

First aid kits, a multipurpose tool, cell phone chargers and a list of emergency contacts should be added too.

Rain gear, insect repellent and sunscreen will also be useful before and after the storm. And make sure you have all your property, insurance and other important documents stored in a safe, watertight container.

Having these things in place ahead of a storm can make a world of difference for you and your family if a disaster should occur.
