PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is facing charges after allegedly spanking an 8-year-old boy.
Travis Persinger Sr., 27, of Hometown, West Virginia, is charged with child abuse resulting in injury -- a felony.
Investigators say Persinger Sr. lives with the young boy's mom in Putnam County.
According to the criminal complaint, a nurse at Winfield Elementary School met with police about the child's injuries on Thursday.
The child told the nurse about the alleged abuse. He said that Persinger Sr. made him pull his pants down Wednesday night so he could spank him. Investigators say the suspect "severely spanked" the boy with a belt.
West Virginia State Police and the Winfield Police Department investigated.
Persinger Sr. is in the Western Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.
