RANDOLPH COUNTY, W.Va. (WDTV)-- A Randolph County man was arrested after he allegedly almost hit a police officer during a traffic stop.
According to the criminal complaint, troopers stopped a pickup truck with an expired registration July 3. The man in the vehicle gave them the name Nathan Channell, but couldn't provide identification.
According to State Police, the driver agreed to a search. When the trooper was trying to help the driver out of the car, the driver began driving, attempting to flee the scene nearly hitting the trooper.
According to the criminal complaint, the driver drove from Valley Village Apartments to Ward Road. traveling north U.S. Route 219 almost causing several accidents then going onto Plantation Drive. The driver then fled on foot.
According to troopers, he was asked to stop when he got out of the truck but did not listen.
According to the criminal complaint, troopers were able to identify the man as Matthew Channell. Troopers were advised that Channell's license was revoked for one active DUI in April 2012 and three unpaid citation suspensions, the most recent being from October 2016.
Police found a stolen firearm in Channell's truck.
Channell has been charged with fleeing with reckless indifference and is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
