HARRISON COUNTY, W.Va (WDTV) - As School Service Personnel Day approaches, school administrators are emphasizing the important roles service personnel play in the school system.

At the Harrison County Board of Education meeting this week, Dr. Mark Manchin, superintendent of Harrison County Schools, acknowledged Governor Jim Justice's proclamation declaring September 25 School Service Personnel Day.

"Service personnel play an integral and incredibly important role in the school system," Dr. Manchin said, pointing to the support aides and kitchen staff provide.

At Bridgeport Middle School, Deanna Saliga has been working as a cook for 16 years. She's served as the cafeteria manager the last 13 of them.

"[The kids] are always happy to see the cooks, because we feed them," Saliga joked. "We get the good sides of the kids."
