FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV)- It is Workshop Wednesday for small businesses in Marion County. The West Virginia Small Business Development Center got hands on with local entrepreneurs in a Business Fundamentals workshop in Fairmont.

The event covers everything local businessmen and women need to know to successfully start and maintain a company in the Mountain State. It takes into account key components of our state, including demographic and landscape, but most importantly the passion of the business owner.

WV SBDC uses a “Three Step Jump Start” coaching program to break down the practical basics of owning a business. Attendees came from all over the county to get information on securing a business license, identifying the market, and constructing a detailed business plan to build credibility with the community and investors once established.

Business leaders say this course allows eager entrepreneurs to receive the right information at the right time.

"Our goal is to provide economic growth within the state and we want to see more jobs, we want to see more families stay here, we want more of our young people staying here," Business Coach Todd Crump says. "What better way than to foster growth economic development, through business growth."

The three steps of the program include an online video, the Business Fundamental workshop, followed by a meeting with a WV SBDC business coach. Those in attendance are now half way through the program.
