Morgantown police are conducting a death investigation after a body was found behind a church right next to West Virginia University(WVU)'s campus.

"It's definitely surprising, and I didn't hear about it, I'm just hearing about it now for the first time,"

Paige Weinblum, a WVU student, says she was unaware that the police had found a body behind a church right next to her campus.

According to Morgantown police, around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning a staff member of the Lutheran Campus Chapel discovered a body.

Identified as 34 year old Morgantown resident Elizabeth Ann Leo, the body is now going to Charleston to be examined by the chief medical examiner for a full autopsy.

While the incident didn't put any students in danger, Weinblum says it highlights the lack of communication between local law enforcement and students.

"There's definitely been a lot of talk about how we've not been informed right away or in an appropriate manner," Weinblum said

Brenna Leasor, who's family lives in Morgantown, says she feels like there has recently been more safety and crime incidents in downtown.

"Being from here I feel like anytime something like this has happened it's been down by the river, or not in the nicest place in town," Leasor said "So I think it's kind surprising that it's right there,"

And with these types of incidents hitting closer to home, such as the confrontation between police and a wanted man that ended in gunfire right outside campus in March, Weinblum sees communication between police and the campus as more important than ever.

"There was like that shooting incident that happened down there and I feel like students and faculty were the last to know," Weinblum said "And we're the ones walking around,"
