Tasty Tuesday: Aquarium Lounge

The Aquarium Lounge in Fairmont first opened in 1972. Ownership changed hands a few times when it closed for what seemed like forever in 2017. But husband and wife duo Jon and Eric Duarte were determined to keep the beloved restaurant from shutting its doors.

"We were pretty big fans of the place, came down quite a bit ourselves, and hated to see it close," Jon said.

In January, the couple re-opened the restaurant.

"This place has been an institution for Fairmont. We don't have a whole lot of options for finer dining in the area. So to be able to make that option available again to residents in the city and outside the city was something we were very excited about," said Jon.

Steaks, seafood, and spirits are the pride and joy of the menu.

"The food is tremendous. The specials, the steaks, just really fine dining," said loyal customer Frank Sowers.

Everything is made-to-order with fresh ingredients.

"I've always enjoyed cooking. It's something that you can make people happy, I love it when they come back, over and over again, we have a lot of regulars here," said Erica, who is the main chef at the restaurant.

Customers can enjoy a casual lunch...or come back in the evening for a refined, intimate dining experience.

"We try to provide a relaxed atmosphere. It's obviously small, cozy. A lot of people know each other in here so it's a very friendly atmosphere," said Jon.

In addition to excellent cuisine, the Aquarium Lounge is also known for its stellar staff.

"They're excellent people. They're very passionate about what they do and they do an excellent job," said Sowers.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday and just dinner on Saturdays. They also have a happy hour on weekdays from 4-6.

Jon and Erica are adding several new items to the menu that they hope to have ready by the end of the week. They've also started to offer catering and have an extensive catering menu. To learn more, call 304-534-7746.
