MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) - A woman from the Morgantown area had a dream of starting her own boutique, but it quickly turned into a popular cafe in the Cheat Lake area.
"The baking part is, my grandparents own a bakery in Masontown, PA.," said owner Michelle Rowan. "So that's where a lot of the recipes come from."
Farmhouse Cafe serves as both a place for coffee and lunch, and a boutique.
"We actually worked at a jewelry store together," Rowan said. "We've always wanted to own a boutique so we thought well, we wanted to add a little more to that."
It quickly turned into both a cafe and a boutique. With a variety of coffees, salads, sandwiches, and desserts, some of the recipes are from family and some are strictly their own.
"The food, I'm Italian, by nationality, so a lot of our food is usually Italian," she said. "It comes from my heritage, so I just wanted to bring a part of my family history into it all."
They learned the coffee from a roaster, but they quickly developed into a town favorite for people to grab a bite to eat or something to drink, or for people to stay for a few hours.
"I just always wanted to be cozy and warm and inviting and have people stay for a while," Rowan said.
Their cheese panini was a favorite of ours, along with the mocha latte. Rowan said part of their mission is to make it so people feel like they're having quality food and drinks in a comfortable environment.
"We have a lot more parents," Rowan. "There's a daycare up above us so they come and drop their kids off and have their morning coffee."
