Tasty Tuesday: Iron Bridge Bistro
The Iron Bridge Bistro in Parsons has a wide variety of menu items. One thing you won't find in their kitchen? A microwave.
"Everything's fresh. We don't have a steam table, heat lamp, or microwave oven. Everything is from the pan to the plate," said Chef Todd Zais.
After putting his passion for cooking on hold for over a decade, Chef Zais finally opened the bistro in April.
"I decided to follow my dream and open the restaurant."
"The food is phenomenal, the service is great, it's a great atmosphere; it's just a good place to be," said customer James Snyder.
Another customer, Christine Rosenau, added, "It's convenient, it's got good food, and it's family oriented."
During his career, Chef Zais has worked in kitchens across the country.
"The menu is a little bit of everything that I've picked up over the years from place to place."
Stand outs on the menu include the crab cakes, steaks, shrimp scampi, and a unique dish, the deep fried Philly cheese steak.
The decadent creation starts with peppers, onions and mushrooms, grilled with fresh steak. Once it's seasoned, it all gets rolled up in a tortilla, deep fried and topped with creamy queso.
"If you want something different, or nicer and upscale, we're here."
"It's something nice for the community to have," said Laura Hunter, who traveled over an hour from her small town in Maryland to try the food with her friends.
"It's very good food. It's [sometimes] hard to find good food in a little town, but this is the place to eat," said John Lipscomb, who says his go-to dish is the hand-cut rib-eye.
Despite the long journey to having his own restaurant, Chef Zais says getting to make customers smile, is what makes it all worth it.
"I just have a passion for making people happy with my food. I want them to feel welcome and like it's the best meal they've ever had."
