Tasty Tuesday: Leonard's Grill
Leonard's Grill on Main Street in Grafton has only been open for a few months but has already gained a reputation for delicious food and fast, friendly service.
The restaurant got its name from the 95-year-old building it's in: it used to be a grocery store called "Leonard's".
"It just kinda made sense. Everybody was familiar with the building so, the 'Leonard's Grill' just kind of stuck," said the owner, Derek Watkins.
Leonard's Grill is known for its fast service and quality, home-cooked meals.
"The food is amazing," said Stephanie Waide, a regular customer.
"I got the 'Triple X' hamburger with the ghost pepper. It was excellent, I would definitely order it again," said Tony Hines, a first-time customer from Virginia.
Ordering is easy. Just choose your salad, sandwich or hoagie, then pick a protein. With this method, Leonard's can make over 100 variations of just a few menu options.
"You can make any of our eleven sandwiches on a burger, grilled chicken, fried chicken, or a black bean burger," said Watkins.
The restaurant is also known for the dangerously hot 'Devil's Breath' wings. The sauce is made in-house with hot sauce and a secret blend of spices and ghost pepper powder. After being tossed in sauce, the wings are coated with a layer of the dry seasoning.
"I don't know if I've had anyone who didn't agree it was very hot," said Watkins, who went through several recipes to get the perfect blend of spice and flavor.
It's not just the food that makes Leonard's great, it's the people.
"I feel at home when I'm here. People are very friendly," said Waide.
"A good hometown, friendly place to eat," said Hines.
Leonard's recipe for success is simple, said Watkins, "Simple ingredients, fun combinations, comfort food; put the ingredients together and just let you enjoy it."
