MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WDTV) - Tucked between stores in Morgantown's Seneca Center, The Tea Shoppe is a hidden gem and a local favorite.
One of the Shoppe's most popular items: the afternoon tea service.
"I love this place; the tea is awesome," said loyal customer Michelle Bowser.
Lisa Biafore opened the shop in 2013.
"I've always loved to entertain and cook," she said.
Biafore wanted to bring something different to the area.
"I just thought it would be a nice niche for Morgantown; we have plenty of coffee shops, so this set us apart," said Biafore.
At The Tea Shoppe, you'll find over 140 premium, all natural, loose-leaf teas.
Biafore said, "Tea is very good for you; it's very high in antioxidants and it's very versatile."
They also serve breakfast and lunch. The most popular item is the afternoon tea service: a three-tiered tray of baked goods and sandwiches, that comes with a pot of tea.
"I love the tea, the three-tiered trays with all the little pastries, the scones are great, and the specials are always great," Bowser said.
The shop also sells a variety of unique gift items, including tea sets, mugs, loose-leaf tea, spices, and salts.
Not only do customers crave the tea and treats, they also enjoy the quaint atmosphere.
"It's cozy and fun," said Bowser.
Biafore says tea is her passion, and she wants to share that passion with everyone.
"It's a unique experience for town, you have to give it a try," she said.
Each month, the shop hosts different tea tasting events for adults. The event for the month of December is a Harry Potter theme. They also have monthly events for kids.
As December approaches, the Shoppe is preparing for holiday sales. Usually, Biafore said, their biggest deal in December is 'buy three ounces of tea, get one free'. Typically, they also have holiday discounts on their giftware.
