GRAFTON, W.Va. (WDTV) - Tuesday night three police officers in Taylor County received the Medal of Valor for going above and beyond their line of duty.

The Taylor County Commission says Deputy Christopher M. Gowen, LT. Dayton l. Mayle and Sheriff Terring W. Skinner were all involved in a life-threatening incident back in April during a pursuit for a suspect.

According to authorities, the suspect attempted to hit the deputies with his car and while Mayle and Gowen pulled the suspect from his vehicle, all three men ended up in a ditch. While trying to detain the man the suspect fired shots nearly hitting the officers.

In the end, no one was hurt and the suspect was arrested, but this situation earned all three men this honor and Sheriff Skinner says while he's honored to receive this award, he's even more proud of his deputies.

"It means a great deal," said Sheriff Skinner. "My officers are outstanding. I'm so proud of my department and my officers. They do a fantastic job."
