GRAFTON, W.Va. (WDTV) -- The United Way of Marion County is expanding its efforts and will now cover Taylor County.

The announcement was made Wednesday morning during a press conference at the Mother's Day Shrine in Grafton.

The change will be effective July 1, 2019. The name will officially change to the United Way of Marion and Taylor Counties.

“This is a natural expansion for our organization to bring United Way’s presence to another level in the communities within Taylor County,” said Brett White, Executive Director. “For over 81 years, we have served Marion County by providing funding, programming and other services to improve the quality of life of everyone in our community and I look forward to building on that now in Taylor County.”

Fairmont Federal Credit Union gave a gift to the United Way to celebrate the expansion. The gift was a check worth $1,939. The bank, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary, gave the gift in honor of their founding year.

According to the release, the expansion was three years in the making. The organization has visited with several nonprofit organizations throughout Taylor County and has spent the last three months learning and hearing from individuals about the needs of the community.
