WASHINGTON, D.C. (WDTV) -- Nate Smail had the chance to speak to Senator Joe Manchin today, as well as two united mine worker retirees from our state. The goal was to get an update on the American Miners' Pension Act, and if it's going to pass before the end of the year. The answer is a bit complicated.
Senator Manchin and*the two retirees said they're making progress convincing more senators that it's vital they pass the legislation that would protect the pensions of nearly 87,000 beneficiaries as well as 20,000 miners. But Manchin said it's not a done deal. In fact, he put some of the blame on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
